Smileband News

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

Frankie Cluney, a 32-year-old artist from Brighton, England, has become known as a real-life Rapunzel due to her extraordinary hair, which measures six feet in length. Remarkably, she hasn’t washed her hair in over 20 years.

Frankie’s journey began at the age of six when she was captivated by images of women with long, flowing hair in her mother’s art books. This fascination inspired her to grow her own hair long. By the time she was 13, her hair reached her waist. She found washing it cumbersome and time-consuming, often struggling to rinse out shampoo and conditioner thoroughly. A friend of her mother suggested she stop washing her hair altogether, a concept that intrigued Frankie. She decided to give it a try.

The initial transition was challenging. For the first few months, her hair became greasy, and her scalp felt itchy. However, over time, these issues subsided. Frankie adopted a simple hair care routine that involved regular combing without the use of any products. She doesn’t comb her hair every day, but when she does, the process of detangling can take between 30 minutes to an hour. She describes this routine as meditative.

One of the unique aspects of not washing her hair, according to Frankie, is that it absorbs scents from her environment, serving as a sensory reminder of where she’s been and who she’s interacted with. Despite the challenges, such as managing tangles and the sheer weight of her hair, Frankie has embraced her distinctive appearance. She works as a life drawing model and has no plans to cut her hair, continuing to embody the real-life Rapunzel.

Here are the key points about Frankie Cluney, the woman who hasn’t washed her hair in over 20 years:

1. Inspired by Art – At age six, she was fascinated by images of women with long hair in her mother’s art books, inspiring her to grow her own hair long.

2. Stopped Washing at 13 – Washing her waist-length hair became difficult, and a family friend suggested she stop using shampoo altogether.

3. Initial Greasiness – The transition was challenging, with greasy and itchy hair for the first few months, but her scalp eventually adapted.

4. Simple Hair Routine – She doesn’t use any products, only combs her hair occasionally, which can take 30 minutes to an hour to detangle.

5. Hair Absorbs Scents – Her hair retains scents from her surroundings, serving as a sensory reminder of her experiences.

6. Challenges and Benefits – Though heavy and prone to tangles, her long hair is now a defining part of her identity.

7. Life as a Model – She works as a life drawing model and embraces her “real-life Rapunzel” persona, with no plans to cut her hair.

Smileband News

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

The American XL Bully dog breed has been at the center of significant controversy in the United Kingdom, leading to a nationwide ban and subsequent seizures of these animals. The ban was implemented following a series of attacks attributed to XL Bullies, which accounted for more than 50% of dog-related human fatalities in the UK between 2021 and June 2023, despite their relatively low population.

In response to these incidents, the UK government enacted legislation making it illegal to own an XL Bully without an exemption certificate from February 2024. Additionally, from December 31, 2023, it became unlawful to sell, give away, abandon, or breed XL Bullies. Owners are also required to muzzle and leash their dogs in public spaces.

Since the enforcement of these regulations, police forces across the country have seized a substantial number of XL Bullies. In the first eight months of 2024 alone, nearly 2,000 suspected dangerous dogs were confiscated in England and Wales, with 818 of them being euthanized.   The financial burden on law enforcement has been considerable, with the cost of veterinary care and kenneling for seized dogs rising from £4 million in 2018 to an anticipated £25 million by April 2025.

Specific regions have reported notable seizure numbers. Kent Police, for instance, have confiscated dozens of XL Bullies since the new restrictions came into effect.  Similarly, Sussex Police seized more than 40 XL Bullies in 2024, accounting for nearly two-thirds of all dogs seized in the county that year.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has called for a comprehensive review of dog control measures, expressing concerns that the current breed-specific ban may not effectively reduce attacks. They advocate for a focus on responsible dog ownership and better enforcement of existing regulations.

The situation underscores the challenges authorities face in balancing public safety with animal welfare. As the ban continues to be enforced, the debate over the most effective strategies to prevent dog attacks remains a contentious issue in the UK.

Key Points on XL Bully Dog Seizures in the UK

1. Ban Implementation:

The UK government banned XL Bullies due to their involvement in numerous fatal attacks.

Since February 2024, owning an XL Bully without an exemption certificate is illegal.

From December 31, 2023, it became unlawful to sell, abandon, breed, or give away these dogs.

2. Seizures and Euthanization:

Nearly 2,000 suspected dangerous dogs were seized in England and Wales in the first eight months of 2024.

818 of these dogs were euthanized.

Sussex Police alone seized over 40 XL Bullies, making up two-thirds of all dog seizures in the county.

3. Financial and Logistical Burden:

The cost of kenneling and veterinary care for seized dogs has risen from £4 million in 2018 to an expected £25 million by April 2025.

Police forces have reported significant resource strain due to enforcing the ban.

4. Controversy and Criticism:

The RSPCA and other animal welfare groups have criticized the breed-specific ban, arguing it does not address the root causes of dog attacks.

Advocates suggest focusing on responsible ownership and stricter enforcement of existing dog control laws instead of banning specific breeds.

5. Public Safety Concerns:

Proponents of the ban argue that XL Bullies were responsible for over 50% of dog-related deaths in the UK between 2021 and mid-2023.

Authorities continue to face challenges in balancing public safety with animal welfare concerns.

Conclusion

The UK’s ban on XL Bully dogs has led to widespread seizures, placing a significant burden on police forces and animal welfare organizations. While the government implemented the ban to improve public safety following a series of fatal attacks, critics argue that breed-specific legislation is ineffective and fails to address irresponsible ownership. The financial and logistical costs of enforcement continue to rise, and debates persist over whether alternative measures—such as stricter licensing and owner education—would be more effective. As authorities navigate these challenges, the issue remains a contentious topic in the UK’s approach to dangerous dogs.

Lunar New Year: A Celebration of Tradition, Family, and Prosperity

Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most significant celebrations in many East and Southeast Asian cultures. Marking the beginning of the new year based on the lunar calendar, the festival is widely celebrated in China, Vietnam, South Korea, and other countries with deep-rooted traditions. The event is not only a time for family reunions but also an occasion to honor ancestors, embrace new beginnings, and wish for prosperity in the year ahead.

Origins and Significance

The origins of Lunar New Year date back thousands of years to ancient China, where it was closely linked to agricultural cycles and the changing of seasons. According to legend, the festival began as a way to ward off the mythical beast Nian, who would attack villages at the start of the new year. People discovered that loud noises, bright red decorations, and firecrackers could scare the creature away—practices that have since become key elements of the celebration.

Each year is associated with one of the twelve zodiac animals, following the Chinese zodiac cycle. In 2025, for example, the world will welcome the Year of the Snake, symbolizing wisdom, transformation, and intuition.

How It’s Celebrated

Family Reunions and Feasts

Lunar New Year is a time for families to come together. In China, it triggers the world’s largest annual human migration, known as Chunyun, as millions of people travel home to celebrate. The reunion dinner on New Year’s Eve is the most important meal of the year, featuring dishes believed to bring luck and prosperity, such as dumplings (symbolizing wealth), fish (representing abundance), and glutinous rice cakes (for progress and growth).

Red Envelopes and Gift Giving

A beloved tradition during the festival is the giving of hongbao (red envelopes) in China or li xi in Vietnam. These envelopes, filled with money, are gifted to children and unmarried adults as a symbol of good fortune. The color red is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring positive energy.

Fireworks and Lion Dances

Fireworks and firecrackers are a hallmark of Lunar New Year celebrations, particularly in China. They are set off at midnight on New Year’s Eve to scare away evil spirits and welcome prosperity. Meanwhile, lion and dragon dances, accompanied by the rhythmic beating of drums, are performed in streets and temples to bring good luck and drive away negativity.

Cleaning and Decorations

Before the new year arrives, families engage in a thorough cleaning of their homes to sweep away bad luck and make way for good fortune. Houses are then decorated with red lanterns, paper cuttings, and banners inscribed with auspicious phrases like “福” (fu), meaning fortune or happiness.

Variations Across Countries

While the core themes of Lunar New Year remain consistent, different countries have their unique customs:

China: The festival lasts 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival, where people release glowing lanterns into the sky or set them afloat on rivers.

Vietnam (Tết): Families make offerings to their ancestors and prepare traditional dishes like bánh chưng (sticky rice cake). Many also display peach blossoms and kumquat trees for luck.

South Korea (Seollal): Families gather to perform ancestral rites, play folk games, and enjoy dishes such as tteokguk (rice cake soup), which symbolizes growing a year older.

Conclusion

Lunar New Year is more than just a celebration—it is a time-honored tradition that reflects cultural values of family, renewal, and prosperity. As millions around the world welcome the new year with joy, feasts, and fireworks, the festival serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of heritage and togetherness. Whether through traditional customs or modern adaptations, the spirit of Lunar New Year continues to unite generations and bring hope for a bright future.

Trump Issues Executive Order to End ‘Racial Indoctrination’ in Schools

Washington, D.C. – Former President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Wednesday aimed at curbing what he called “racial indoctrination” in K-12 schools, accusing educators of promoting an “anti-American” ideology. The move comes amid ongoing debates over how race and history are taught in U.S. classrooms.

The executive order directs the Department of Education to withhold federal funding from schools that incorporate teachings Trump deems “divisive,” particularly those influenced by critical race theory (CRT). The former president has long been a vocal critic of CRT, a framework that examines systemic racism in American institutions.

A Crackdown on ‘Divisive Concepts’

In his statement, Trump argued that many public schools are fostering resentment among students by teaching them to view the United States as fundamentally racist. “Taxpayer dollars should not be used to promote ideologies that seek to divide our children based on race,” he said. The order specifically targets curricula that suggest systemic racism is ingrained in American society or that white students bear inherent privilege.

The move is consistent with Trump’s broader efforts to reshape the national conversation on race and education. During his presidency, he signed an order in 2020 banning federal agencies and contractors from conducting diversity training sessions that included discussions on white privilege or implicit bias. That order was later rescinded by President Joe Biden.

Supporters and Critics React

Trump’s executive order has drawn both praise and criticism. Supporters, including conservative lawmakers and parents’ rights groups, argue that it is necessary to restore balance in education and prevent what they describe as left-wing indoctrination. “This is a victory for parents who want their kids to learn American history, not radical activism,” said Christopher Rufo, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a leading critic of CRT.

Opponents, however, see the move as an attempt to suppress discussions about racism and stifle academic freedom. Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, condemned the order, saying, “This is a blatant attack on truth and an attempt to whitewash history. Educators should not be punished for teaching about racism and inequality.”

Legal and Political Implications

The executive order is expected to face legal challenges from civil rights groups and educators who argue that it infringes on free speech and local control of education. Critics also note that defining what constitutes “anti-American” teachings is subjective and could lead to censorship.

Trump’s order also underscores his ongoing influence over education policy, even as he seeks a return to the White House in 2024. His stance on race and schooling has become a rallying point for conservatives, who have made education a central issue in recent elections.

As the debate over race and education intensifies, Trump’s latest directive is likely to further polarize the national discourse. Whether the order will withstand legal scrutiny remains to be seen, but it signals a continued push by conservatives to reshape how American history and race are taught in classrooms across the country.

Smileband News

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

In a significant legal development, Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has agreed to pay approximately $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump. The lawsuit, initiated in 2021, accused Meta and its CEO of violating Trump’s rights by suspending his social media accounts following the January 6 Capitol riot.

The suspension of Trump’s accounts in January 2021 was a response to concerns that his posts could incite further violence after the Capitol incident. In June 2021, Meta imposed a two-year suspension on Trump’s accounts, citing the potential risk of further incitement.

In early 2023, Meta reinstated Trump’s accounts but implemented heightened suspension penalties for any future violations of its community standards. However, in July 2024, Meta announced the removal of these heightened penalties, stating that all U.S. presidential candidates would be subject to the same community standards as other users.

The recent settlement concludes the legal dispute between Trump and Meta, with the company agreeing to the $25 million payment. This agreement underscores the ongoing challenges and debates surrounding content moderation, free speech, and the role of social media platforms in regulating political discourse.

Here are the key points from the case of Donald Trump winning $25 million from Meta:

1. Lawsuit Settlement – Meta agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by Donald Trump over the suspension of his social media accounts.

2. Account Suspensions – Meta suspended Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in January 2021 following the Capitol riot, citing concerns over incitement to violence.

3. Two-Year Ban – In June 2021, Meta imposed a two-year suspension on Trump’s accounts, after which it reassessed the risks of allowing him back.

4. Reinstatement in 2023 – Trump’s accounts were reinstated in early 2023, but Meta imposed stricter penalties on him for potential future violations.

5. Restrictions Lifted in 2024 – In July 2024, Meta announced the removal of heightened penalties, ensuring Trump and all presidential candidates would be subject to the same content moderation rules as other users.

6. Legal and Political Impact – The settlement highlights ongoing debates about free speech, content moderation, and the power of social media companies over political discourse.

Conclusion

The $25 million settlement between Donald Trump and Meta marks a significant moment in the ongoing debate over social media regulation, free speech, and corporate accountability. While Meta initially justified the suspension of Trump’s accounts as a necessary measure to prevent further violence, the decision faced strong opposition from conservatives who argued it was an act of political censorship.

The settlement not only closes this legal chapter but also underscores the challenges tech companies face in balancing platform policies with political neutrality. With the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaching, Meta’s decision to treat all candidates equally moving forward signals a shift in its approach to content moderation.

For Trump, the victory reinforces his long-standing claims of being unfairly targeted by big tech, bolstering his narrative ahead of his political comeback bid. Meanwhile, the case raises broader questions about the role of private companies in shaping public discourse and the potential need for clearer regulations governing digital platforms.

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

In a significant policy shift, President Donald Trump has announced plans to detain up to 30,000 undocumented migrants at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This move is part of a broader strategy to address illegal immigration and enhance national security.

The proposed initiative involves constructing a new facility within the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base to accommodate the influx of detainees. President Trump emphasized that this measure aims to alleviate the strain on domestic detention centers and expedite the processing of individuals awaiting deportation.

This announcement follows a series of executive actions targeting immigration. On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed multiple orders to tighten border security, including deploying U.S. troops to the southern border, ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants, and reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which requires asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their cases are processed in U.S. courts.

The decision to utilize Guantanamo Bay has sparked considerable debate. Proponents argue that it provides a secure and efficient solution to manage the high number of undocumented migrants, thereby reducing the burden on U.S. facilities. Critics, however, express concerns over potential human rights violations and the legal implications of detaining individuals in an offshore military base.

Legal experts anticipate challenges to this policy, citing concerns over due process and the applicability of U.S. immigration laws in Guantanamo Bay. The administration’s aggressive stance on immigration is expected to face significant legal scrutiny as these policies are implemented.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how these measures will impact the broader immigration system and the individuals affected by these policies.

Here are the key points of Trump’s plan to detain 30,000 undocumented migrants at Guantanamo Bay:

Mass Detention Plan: Trump announced a plan to house up to 30,000 undocumented migrants at Guantanamo Bay as part of a broader immigration crackdown.

New Facility Construction: A new detention center will be built at the naval base to accommodate detainees.

Border Security Measures: The move follows executive orders tightening immigration policies, including sending U.S. troops to the border and ending birthright citizenship.

Supporters’ View: Proponents argue that this plan will ease the strain on U.S. detention centers and speed up deportation processes.

Criticism and Legal Concerns: Critics raise concerns over potential human rights violations and legal issues related to detaining migrants in an offshore military base.

Expected Legal Challenges: Legal experts anticipate lawsuits challenging the policy’s constitutionality and the due process rights of detainees.

Conclusion

Trump’s plan to detain 30,000 undocumented migrants at Guantanamo Bay marks a dramatic shift in U.S. immigration policy. While supporters argue it will relieve pressure on domestic detention centers and bolster border security, critics warn of human rights concerns and legal challenges. The move is likely to face intense scrutiny from civil rights organizations, legal experts, and international observers. As the administration moves forward with its immigration crackdown, the political and legal battles surrounding this policy will shape the broader debate on how the U.S. handles illegal immigration.
