A suspect has been arrested in Jamaica over the murder of a British Windrush migrant and his wife who were found dead near their homes on Friday. The suspect, who is not being named, is being held at the local police station for questioning by authorities over the couple's deaths.

Charlie Anderson, 74, had retired to Jamaica from Manchester with his wife Gayle, 71, just 12 months ago.

Sources on the Caribbean island told the Sun that Gayle was found with her hair burnt off 20ft from the couple's luxury retirement home.

Husband Charlie's body was discovered with burns to the genitals an hour later 40 metres away from Gayle.

Local reports said the couple had been stabbed as both were reportedly found with wounds to their face and neck.

A source also told the Sun the couple's windows had been removed from the outside and the living room had been set on fire. A police source in Jamaica told The Sun: 'We have a lot of strands to put together - some of them we just can't explain yet.

Mrs Anderson was discovered 20ft in front of the house and on the couple's property. She was lying on her back and her body had been partially, although not severely, burned.

Her hair was burned off, but her face was visible. And her clothes were burned with some material sticking to her body.

Mr Anderson was found 40 metres from the house, but still on the couple's land. He and his clothing were also burned - it was concentrated around the genitalia area.

There were pieces of burnt clothing between his body and the house, like he had been on fire and was getting away from the building. He was found towards the end of a long slope. One of the rooms in the house was also burned, their living room which I believe they also used to cook in while they did construction work on another part of the home.

While a spokesperson for the Jamaican police said: 'The police arrested someone today. They made an arrest this morning and have started to question a suspect about the murders of two Britons.

The man is being detained at a police station in the area. No one has been charged and the police will release a statement later on about developments on this murder.

Genuine and fake versions can be bought for as little as £800, a Daily Mail investigation shows.

One page on Facebook has been used to trade illegal British passports for at least three years.  We also found that passports cloned with details taken from real passports were being touted for a few hundred pounds on other easily-accessible websites. The revelations follow yesterday’s Mail investigation into how stolen British passports are spirited to Turkey to be sold by people smugglers.

David Ibsen, a security expert who advised the US government, said it was no surprise Facebook was being used to hawk passports that could fall into the hands of terrorists. ‘It is well known that extremists use Facebook as a tool to achieve their goals,’ he said. ‘The Mail is to be congratulated for exposing something that poses a genuine danger.

‘We continue to see Facebook failing to address its platform’s role in encouraging and proliferating terrorism. One Facebook page in Arabic – called European Passports For Sale VIP – features multiple pictures of British travel papers.

The site boasts: ‘We sell passports from £800 to £2,600. We are not traffickers. We’re just selling the passport and are not responsible for your travel or smuggling.’ The site says seven out of ten customers succeeded in making it past border control. But it offers entry stamps for an extra £170 to £280.

When an undercover Mail reporter asked to buy a UK passport, the seller quickly replied via the WhatsApp messaging service. He offered a genuine passport for £2,400, another at £1,700 that looked ‘90 per cent real’ and a third ‘50 per cent real’ document for £1,400.

Anaplasmosis is a tick-borne illness caused by the bacterium Anaplasma phagocytophilum. The disease was previously classified as Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE), but the name has recently been changed to Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis (HGA).

The tick that spreads anaplasmosis is commonly found in the northeast, upper Midwest, and northwestern parts of the United States.

The first symptoms of anaplasmosis begin within 1-2 weeks after the bite of an infected tick. Symptoms of anaplasmosis can vary person to person and some people can become ill with all the symptoms. Rash is rarely reported with anaplasmosis infections, and if patients have a rash, it may indicate coinfection with another tick-borne illness.

Symptoms of anaplasmosis include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Malaise
  • Chills
  • Nausea / Abdominal pain
  • Cough
  • Confusion
  • Rash (rare)

Anaplasmosis can be a serious disease, even in previously healthy people, if not treated correctly.

Arizona will typically see 2-5 cases of anaplasmosis reported each year.

Transmission
Anaplasmosis is spread by the bite of an infected tick.

Blood transfusions and organ transplantation are also possible modes of transmission.

The incubation period is 1-2 weeks.

KARLAN Ahearne-Grant is a striker for League One club Charlton Athletic who has been arrested in connection with an alleged sex attack.

The 20-year-old and fellow player Reeco Hackett-Fairchild, along with another man, were arrested following an alleged attack on a 19-year-old girl in Ibiza.

What has been claimed happened in the attack?

The alleged sex attack took place after the players partied at the Ocean Beach club in San Antonio, according to local paper Periodico de Ibiza.

The girl and a female friend met the footballers at a bar on Monday and agreed to go back to their Cala de Bou hotel with them.

She reported the alleged assault after her parents discovered what had happened.

The trio, who were on holiday in Ibiza, are being quizzed by an investigating magistrate behind closed doors.

Who is Karlan Ahearne-Grant?

Ahearne-Grant, was born in Greenwich, south London in September 1997.

Less than a week after his 17th birthday in 2014 he signed a three-year contract with Charlton Athletic and made his professional debut shortly after, coming on as a sub against Norwich City. He made his first starting line-up in October 2014 in the 1-0 defeat against AFC Bournemouth.

Ahearne-Grant has also represented England's U17 side in February 2014, appearing in the Algarve tournament and was also called up later in the year for the U18 squad for the games against Poland.

In recent years he has been loaned out to Cambridge United and Crawley Town.

Who is Reeco Hackett-Fairchild?

Hackett-Fairchild was born in Redbridge, London in January 1998 and currently has made five appearances for Charlton Athletic.

The forward initially started in the youth sides of Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion and joined the Academy side of Dagenham & Redbridge in 2014 on a two-year scholarship.

In March 2016 he went out on a youth loan to Dulwich Hamlet.

Gonorrhea is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is the second most commonly reported infectious disease in Arizona and the United States.

Over the last five years, counts and rates of reported gonococcal infections have significantly increased in the state of Arizona. The number of reported infections increased 133.5% from 3,249 in 2010 to 7,585 in 2014.

Transmission
Gonorrhea is transmitted through sexual contact with the penis, vagina, mouth, or anus of an infected partner. Ejaculation does not have to occur for gonorrhea to be transmitted or acquired. Gonorrhea can also be spread perinatally from mother to baby during childbirth. Isolation Precautions

Infected individuals should be advised to refrain from sexual activity for at least 7 days after being fully treated.

Standard precautions are recommended in healthcare settings.

Prevention for Patients
There are several ways to prevent sexually transmitted infection:

  • Condoms
  • Monogamous relationships
  • Abstinence

Expedited partner therapy (EPT) is an available option in Arizona in order to treat partners.

Pregnant females should be screened during prenatal care. Public Health Actions

Public health monitors gonorrhea case counts and trends statewide.  Due to the high morbidity in Arizona, case investigations may only occur in more severe cases (I.e. co-infection or reinfection).

Public Health in Arizona has developed a plan for addressing the possibility of gonorrhea antimicrobial resistance.  Public health recommends following the CDC recommended treatment guidelines to avoid further antimicrobial resistance development. <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->

The second person who died at a music festival in Hampshire last night has been named as 20-year-old Tommy George Bakeer from Havant, who became a father in 2016. Tributes were paid to Tommy on Facebook, where the mother of his child said: 'We will love you always and forever'.

Another comment on his partner's Facebook page said: 'I just can’t believe he's gone. He was a good friend of mine and a good dad.'

Earlier the mother of an 18-year-old girl who died at the festival last night after taking just two pills has paid tribute to her 'little girl' online - and warned of the dangers of illegal drugs.

Janine Milburn, from Wroughton, said this morning that her daughter Georgia Jones had suffered a 45-minute fit after she took two pills at Mutiny Festival.

Mrs Milburn said 'my little girl was 18 and full of life' and 'I just hope this stops at least some of you ending up the same'

Another reveller in a critical condition was among 15 people to be taken to hospital during the festival. A tribute to Tommy on Facebook said: 'I can’t believe you’ve been taken this soon we had some amazing times mate.

Another said: 'You will be missed by lot of people we had some many memories buddy it was only yesterday we spoke before you went love ya pal.

And a third commenter wrote: 'Still haven’t come to terms with last night. It’s unbelievable how quickly life can just be flipped on its head.

Hurts to know that you won’t be able to see him grow up to be a man. but I’ll always be here to help him become the best man he can be.

A heartbreaking letter posted by Georgia's mother on Facebook read: 'As I have now spoken to family members I can now say Georgia died yesterday due to complications after taking two pills at Mutiny.

If nothing else I hope what has happened to her will deter you from taking anything ever.

She continued: 'The pills had caused her temperature to rise so high it made her fit for 45 mins.

This then caused her muscle to break down and turn her blood acidic. Her heart was irregular and stopped numerous times and then her lungs filled with blood and fluid and I made the decision to turn everything off. <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->

Methycillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) is a type of staph bacteria resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. Anyone can get MRSA and infections range from mild to life-threatening. Individuals may be carriers of MRSA and have it on their skin or in their nose but still be asymptomatic. These individual can still infected others with MRSA even though they are asymptomatic.

In the community, most MRSA infections are skin infections and are generally mild. Skin infections often look like a boil, pimple, or spider bite.

The more serious MRSA infections often occur in healthcare settings. In a healthcare setting, such as a hospital or nursing home, MRSA can cause severe problems such as bloodstream infections, pneumonia and surgical site infections.

In Arizona over the last 10 years there have been a range of 1,000 to 1,400 cases of invasive MRSA reported each year.

Arizona 5 year median: 1,155 cases

Transmission
Infections occur due to direct contact with contaminated surfaces or skin.

In the community, MRSA easily spreads in settings such as daycare, correctional facilities, or sport camps by frequent skin-to-skin contact, crowding, compromised skin, contaminated items and surfaces and lack of cleanliness.

In health care settings, poor adherence to standard infection control precautions (e.g. hand hygiene) can lead to transmission between patients and to clusters of infections. Isolation Precautions

Patients with MRSA should be put on standard and contact precautions.

Prevention for Patients
Maintaining good hand and body hygiene is the best prevention method.

  • Washing hands often, and cleaning body regularly, especially after exercise.
  • Keeping cuts, scrapes, and wounds clean and covered until healed.
  • Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, washcloths, razors, clothing, and uniforms.

Individuals are infectious as long as the sores are draining.

Public Health Actions
Cases should be excluded from school or child care only if the sores cannot be covered.

Public health will conduct an epidemiological investigation on an outbreak. <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->

Article written by Laura Lammasniemi white slavery’ to trafficking

In England, the campaigns against white slavery culminated in a rally in Hyde Park, London, in August 1885, when tens of thousands of people demanded that white slavery be outlawed and the age of consent for girls be raised. The measure that was adopted first was the Criminal Law Amendment Act (CLAA) 1885.

The CLAA 1885 was significant for creating a definition of a trafficked girl – the involuntary prostitute. It made it an offence to procure “any girl or woman under twenty-one years of age, not being a common prostitute, or of known immoral character, to have unlawful carnal connexion”. By including the words “not being a common prostitute, or of known immoral character”, the section excluded from the scope of the law not only those working in prostitution but also any women considered promiscuous or not respectable.

The CLAA also outlawed domestic and international trafficking by making it an offence to procure a woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution abroad or within the UK. However, if a woman was already living in a brothel, she could not be procured or trafficked, reinforcing the division between ‘prostitutes’ and victims. In a number of ways, then, the act created a distinction between virtuous virgins who embodied social purity, and the Other – the “common and immoral prostitute”. The lives of all women who would today be described as migrants and sex workers came under deeper control with every new legal intervention. The legislation did not, and could not, provide protection against the exploitation of women within prostitution and otherwise, as it focused on procurement and immigration rather than continuing acts of exploitation. It framed white slavery as a matter of criminal or immigration law, but did not acknowledge the wider structural factors behind female poverty and inequality – much like present-day anti-trafficking initiatives. <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->

Smileband general news

Article written by the Caribbean council,

China is continuing to increase and diversify its investments in the Caribbean region.

Confirming trends forecast in recent reports from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Chinese companies have recently announced major diversified investments in Jamaica and St Lucia.

On July 19 the Jamaican government announced that the Alpart alumina refinery in Jamaica had been sold for US$299m to the Chinese state owned entity the Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company (JISCo) owned by the Jersey-registered but Moscow-operated industrial giant, US Rusal.

According to Jamaica’s Transport and Mining Minister, Mike Henry, JISCo is expected to complete the full takeover of Alpart by November this year and will then begin a first phase of investment of around US$220m in modifying and upgrading the alumina plant to reduce costs and enhance production. Work permits are expected to be issued for around 200 Chinese technicians to achieve this and to undertake other activities.

The Minister also said that the company plans to invest another US$1.5bn to establish an industrial zone co-located with the alumina facility, which is located at Nain, St Elizabeth in the south of Jamaica. The project is expected over a four-year period to create over 3,000 new jobs.

Reflecting the political sensitivity of the continuing increase in the number of Chinese workers on the island, Mr Henry said that JISCo has been asked to provide details of the required job qualifications to ensure that “no Jamaican who is qualified for these…is left out.” He also confirmed that the company would be employing the existing Alpart staff, recruiting most former and available employees and creating around 700 new jobs from the latter part of 2016. He said that the company will be “paying great attention” to protecting the environment. Alpart had been closed from 2009 to 2015.

Rusal acquired a 65% stake in Alpart in 2007 as part of its merger with the alumina assets of Glencore, and acquired the remaining 35% stake in 2011. Alpart, which uses its own local bauxite production as feedstock, was previously reported to have an annual production capacity of 1.65m tonnes of cell-grade alumina.

The acquisition makes JISCo one of the top 10 producers of aluminium in China. The company was established in 1958 as a large-scale iron and steel producer but is now diversified into other areas of heavy engineering and power generation.

The investment is a sign of increasing Chinese interest in Jamaica as an economic base and follows from a wide range of other Chinese projects underway or being discussed.

In July, Jamaica announced that it had decided to use Chinese concessional loans to upgrade the road network on the island. Speaking at a press conference, the Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, said that US$384m in loan funding would come from China’s Exim Bank to construct a new road network in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country, including in the neglected parish of St Thomas. The Jamaican government said it will raise an additional US$57m of the overall funding required.

Earlier this year the Chinese-built and financed US$730m North-South Highway opened, connecting Kingston to Ocho Rios and reducing coast-to-coast transit time to about an hour. The project gives the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), which built the highway, a 50-year concession to recover its costs from tolls. The company also received land alongside the highway to develop for residential and commercial use.

At the time the Vice President of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), Ziyu Sun, which owns CHEC, said that it will begin the construction of its regional headquarters in New Kingston later this year. <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->
