The United Kingdom has significantly bolstered Ukraine’s defense capabilities by providing advanced attack drones, underscoring its commitment to supporting Ukraine amidst ongoing conflicts. In January 2025, the UK and Latvia co-led the Drone Capability Coalition, facilitating contracts worth £45 million to supply Ukraine with 30,000 new attack and surveillance drones.   This initiative reflects the UK’s strategic approach, emphasizing that “the defense of the UK starts in Ukraine.”

Further enhancing Ukraine’s uncrewed capabilities, the UK announced an additional £7.5 million investment in November 2024 for the latest drone technology. This funding aims to provide more advanced drones, strengthening Ukraine’s surveillance and attack operations.

The UK’s support extends to the development of innovative drone systems. In collaboration with Denmark, the UK has introduced a bespoke air defense system called ‘Gravehawk,’ which has been rapidly developed and tested in Ukraine, with plans for further deployment in 2025.  Additionally, the UK has supplied Ukraine with modified QinetiQ Banshee drones, adapted as long-range kamikaze drones with a range of up to 200 km.
