Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

On the evening of January 31, 2025, a tragic aviation accident occurred in Northeast Philadelphia when a Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, crashed shortly after takeoff from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The aircraft was en route to Tijuana International Airport, with a planned stop at Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. All six individuals on board perished in the crash, including a young girl who had recently undergone life-saving treatment in the United States.

The incident took place near Roosevelt Mall at the intersection of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. Eyewitnesses reported that the plane appeared to “fall out of the sky,” leading to a massive explosion upon impact. The resulting fireball ignited several homes and vehicles, causing extensive damage and injuries on the ground.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and medical teams, arrived promptly to address the ensuing fires and assist the injured. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash, with preliminary reports indicating that the aircraft experienced a catastrophic failure shortly after takeoff.

This tragedy follows closely on the heels of another aviation disaster earlier in the week, where an American Airlines flight collided with a military helicopter over the Potomac River, resulting in significant loss of life.

The Philadelphia community is now grappling with the aftermath of this devastating event, mourning the loss of life and beginning the process of recovery and investigation.
