King Charles Marks 80th Anniversary of Auschwitz Liberation with Solemn Tribute

King Charles has led the nation in marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration camp where over one million people, predominantly Jews, were murdered during the Holocaust. In a moving ceremony, the monarch honored the victims and survivors, emphasizing the importance of remembrance and education to prevent history from repeating itself.

The commemoration, held at a solemn gathering in London, brought together Holocaust survivors, their families, dignitaries, and representatives from Jewish communities. Speaking at the event, King Charles highlighted the horrors of the Holocaust and the enduring importance of fostering tolerance and compassion in today’s world.

“Eighty years ago, the gates of Auschwitz were opened, revealing an unimaginable scale of human suffering,” the King said. “Today, we stand together to ensure the voices of the victims and survivors are never forgotten. In their memory, we must renew our commitment to combating antisemitism, hatred, and prejudice in all its forms.”

The ceremony included poignant testimonies from survivors who shared their personal accounts of life under Nazi persecution. One such speaker, 92-year-old Ruth Klein, who was just a child when she was deported to Auschwitz, spoke of her harrowing experiences and the resilience that carried her through.

“It is a privilege to share my story so that future generations can understand the consequences of hatred,” Klein said. “We must ensure that the lessons of Auschwitz are never lost.”

A symbolic candle-lighting ceremony followed, with six candles lit to represent the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. King Charles, accompanied by Holocaust survivors, laid a wreath in memory of those who lost their lives.

The monarch’s commitment to Holocaust education and remembrance has been evident throughout his life. As Prince of Wales, he was a patron of several Holocaust memorial organizations and met with numerous survivors, ensuring their stories were shared widely. This dedication continues as King, with his involvement playing a key role in national and international efforts to combat hate and promote understanding.

The 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation, first marked on January 27, 1945, serves as a powerful reminder of the atrocities of the past. It also underscores the importance of Holocaust Memorial Day, which is observed globally to honor victims and survivors while addressing ongoing issues of discrimination.

This year’s theme, “Legacy and Responsibility,” resonates deeply with King Charles’s message of collective responsibility to safeguard human rights and dignity.

The King concluded his address with a heartfelt plea for unity: “Let us never forget the lessons of Auschwitz. In memory of those who suffered, let us dedicate ourselves to building a world rooted in understanding, respect, and peace.”

As the nation reflects on this significant milestone, King Charles’s leadership serves as a beacon of hope, ensuring that the memory of Auschwitz endures and inspires future generations to stand against hatred and oppression.
