Daniel Khalife’s prison escape and subsequent appearance in court captivated attention as more details emerged about his methods and motivations.

During his trial, Khalife described his fear of other inmates, saying he sought to escape for personal safety, especially from individuals he claimed were involved in serious crimes.

Allegedly, he crafted straps, possibly from bedsheets, and used them to secure himself to the underside of a food delivery truck. On the morning of September 6, Khalife, who worked in the prison kitchen, managed to slip past security attached to the vehicle.

The dramatic escape prompted an extensive manhunt that concluded a few days later when Khalife was found near a canal in west London.

When apprehended, he had reportedly been carrying a bag with cash and a phone, hinting he had prepared for a brief time on the run. His escape also triggered scrutiny of Wandsworth Prison’s security protocols, with the Justice Secretary launching a formal investigation and relocating several inmates to other facilities as a result.
